Unity FC Snatches Victory Over Rising Stars in Antieku Football Thriller

Football fans in Antieku were treated to an electrifying encounter on Saturday afternoon as Unity FC edged out Rising Stars FC with a 2–1 win in the highly anticipated community match held at the Antieku Astroturf.
The match kicked off promptly at 4:00 PM with a buzzing crowd of over 300 spectators. Unity FC drew first blood in the 18th minute when striker Kwame Mensah popularly known as MTN intercepted a mispass and rifled the ball into the net. However, Rising Stars FC leveled the score near halftime through a thunderous long-range strike by midfielder Emmanuel Tetteh,sending their fans into a frenzy.
The winning moment came in the 73rd minute when Unity’s substitute Daniel Owusu curled in a brilliant free kick, leaving the Rising Stars goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
In an interview with Coach Sarah Adjei of Unity FC, she stated,
“We’ve been working on set pieces all week. Daniel’s execution was spot on, and I’m proud of the team’s discipline and resilience.”
In an interview with Emmanuel Tetteh, midfielder for Rising Stars FC, he said, “It was a tough game. We played with heart but fell short. That said, we’ll regroupthis isn’t the last anyone will hear of Rising Stars.”
In an interview with Nana Akua, a local vendor and avid football fan, she shared,
“This match was everything. The energy, the community vibe, the talent it reminded me of why I love coming here every weekend.”
In an interview with Joseph Nii Lamptey, the match referee, he noted,
“Both sides played fair and respected the rules. It’s this kind of sportsmanship that makes community football exciting and sustainable.”
Organizers hinted at future fixtures involving more local teams, aiming to develop young talent and build stronger community ties through sport. If Saturday’s showdown was any indication, Antieku might be shaping up to become one of Accra’s hotspots for grassroots football.
